Back In NJ!!!

After a couple of years down in Florida I am back in New Jersey!!! I have taken quite a bit of time off due to pregnancy and the birth of my third child. I'm looking forward to getting back out there, especially in an area that offers such a variety of locations and scenery. It feels good to be back in my home state and I look forward to photo shoots in a new location.

If you are looking to book, feel free to contact me at anytime. Fall is here and that makes for beautiful scenery and great shots.

Where and When to do Your Photo Shoot

Picking the right location can sometimes be difficult.  Do you pick a place that you like to spend time with your family?  Do you pick a place that you believe is beautiful?  And to be completely honest, either will do. Below are what I believe to be the 3 most important things to consider when picking your time and location.

1.  What does the location have to offer?  Places like a beach can offer wonderful shots and yield great images.  Sometimes, a beach is simply a beach though.  What I mean is, there is sand and water, so every shot is going to have a similar background and an hour shoot is going to produce a lot of similar looking pictures.  So how do you fix that?  Choose a beach near a park, or one that has a lot of trees, dunes, or other features that will offer some different and unique shots.

2.  Is it a popular place?  Photo shoots when there are a lot of people around can be difficult.  Some guy always thinks he is funny and jumps in the background of a shot.  I do my best to take shots with few people in the background and try to edit them out when possible.  So when thinking of your location, keep in mind that a popular beach on Labor Day weekend may not be the best location.  A place that offers areas that are off the beaten path will always allow for more great shots.

3.  Time of Day.  Time of day is a big factor for photo shoots.  Obviously, if you want sunset shots you are a little limited on your time selection.  Just remember, in the middle of summer at 1:00 PM, it is HOT!  You may start sweating, children may start crying, and a photo shoot can go downhill real fast.  Also, if the session if for young children, take into consideration their nap times or feeding schedule to avoid cranky kids.  A hungry, tired child can be nightmare, at least mine can be.

Remember, this is your photo shoot so I will work with you at the location of your choosing. These are just a few tips for you to take into consideration when choosing the time and location of your shoot.

If you are having difficulty choosing a location feel free to contact me and we can work through the pros and cons of a few different locations and find one that works best for you.

New Site, New Features

I have recently updated my website to get a new clean look and offer a few small features.  The biggest new feature is that I am now able to offer online galleries for all packages.  These galleries will be password protected so only those you share the password with will be able to preview your recent photo session.  This gives you a little glimpse of your photos before the arrival of your CD.

Keep checking back, as I add new features I will continue to let you know.

Some of My Editing Process

Being able to take great photographs is the most important part of my job, I mean, I am a photographer.  Being able to edit them and tweak them while processing them is what can make a good shot and amazing shot.  After your photo session, I take the photos home, pick out the best shots, and edit them in Photoshop.

The editing process can be a lengthy process but well worth it in the long run.  Some photos don't need any type of editing, some are edited to bring out colors for a more dramatic feel, and others are edited to remove objects that make the picture less than appealing (i.e. people in the background).

I recently did a photo shoot down at Fort Myers Beach at sunset.  The shots were coming out amazing.  Only problem, there were a million people on the beach!!  I was amazed at how crowded it was for a Sunday night.  So no matter where we were, there were people in the background of almost every shot and even some "funny" people who intentionally jumped into the shot.  So needless to say, editing was not the easiest for this shoot.

I had alot of work in front of me.  I needed to remove as many people from the background as possible, without messing with the integrity of the photo itself.  Here is one example:

photoediting.jpg

As you can see, on the left, there are numerous people in the background of the shot.  After some time editing, most of these people were removed from the shot.  I also tweaked the color of the sunset ever so slightly.  The overall product came out great in my opinion.  This is why, being able to edit a photo is almost as important as being able to take a great photo in the first place....although, if you can't take a great shot, you have little to work with in the editing room.

Photo editing is included with all photo session packages.  I do my best to make each shot amazing.  Some artistic liberties are taken with the editing process but nothing that is going to ruin the integrity of the photographs.

Emma's First Birthday

Got to work with a beautfiul little girl Emma this weekend.  She was a tough one but we ended up getting some great shots from the session.  Her parents were great to work with and dressed her up in one of my favorite outfits ever.  They did their best to keep her happy and keep her interested in the camera.

The little tutu she was wearing was awesome.  It had great colors and I kinda wish I had one for my daughter.  I had alot of fun with this one and hope that I get to work with them again in the future.

I am available for first birthday photos any time.  Turn one is a great time and an exciting time in a child's life.  They are starting to walk and get into everything which always makes for an interesting shoot.

A Trip to New Mexico

Recently I went on a little trip to New Mexico to visit my brother-in-law and sister-in-law.  It was the first time that I have ever been to New Mexico and it offered the opportunity to capture some great photos.  The landscapes were beautiful and the randomness of houses and other structures made for some great shots.

It was a great time and I really enjoyed the visit.  We traveled to Texas one day and the journey really showed off some interesting places.  I am not used to driving through the mid-west.  Some areas we passed by were true old-west towns.  I grew up in New Jersey and now live in Florida, and there is nothing like this there.

We drove by completely abandoned towns which is totally strange to me.  There were playgrounds in the middle of nowhere, cool looking windmills, farms and ranches.  My journey lead me down the infamous Route 66 which showcased old diners, decrepid gas stations, and beat down towns.

All in all, it was a great trip.  I enjoyed see family and had a great time snapping photos while I was out there.  You can check out a few more images at my Art Portfolio page.

An Electric Evening

Last night we had an amazing storm here in South West Florida.  While there was not a lot of rain there was a ton of lightning.  God had his strobe light on last night.

Lightning is not an easy thing to capture with photography.  There are timing issues, you never know when it is going to strike.  Then there is the shutter speed and aperture settings that need to be tweaked to be able to capture an amazing shot.  And finally, I needed to take a hundred shots or so just to capture a few good photos.  Just snapping photo after photo, hoping that lighting would crack just as I snapped a shot.

I ended up getting a few great shots and it was a fun little adventure until the lightning looked like it was getting a little to close for comfort and of course, trying to avoid the rain.

Worked with a Great Couple Recently

I got the opportunity to work with a wonderful couple recently.  A couple that is truly in love, like them, makes it incredibly easy to capture great images.  Their chemistry showed through in the photos and made the session alot of fun.

We held the photo session in downtown Fort Myers and were able to capture some great shots in several different places downtown.  Downtown Fort Myers is a great place to hold a photo shoot.  There are multiple places that offer great backdrops and create beautiful photographs.  It has been one of my favorite places to shoot so far.

I would like to say thank you to Dan & Nicole and wish them all the best in the future.  I hope I get the opportunity to work with more couples like them in the future.
